10 Sales - 2 days
September 21 & 22, 2011

This is a general explanation of how the Private Treaty Sales in the Wessington Springs area are conducted.
No catalogs are mailed out.

Each producer conducts his sale independently of the others in the area.  Most sales follow these basic guidelines, but may vary somewhat from one producer to the next.  Please ask!

SALE GUIDELINES

The calves are viewed in the pasture on their dams, under natural conditions.  A complete listing of all calves, with info on age, sire and dams will be available when you come to inspect the offering. You are welcome to see the cattle at any time.   Please call ahead to make an appointment.

The sales are conducted by phone.  You don't need to be present to bid.     Floor prices are set by the individual owners. (Floor prices range from $800 to $2500+.)  You must submit an opening bid by the closing time of each individual sale.  We then contact everyone who has placed a bid on a particular calf. You are allowed to raise your bids in increments of  $100 or more.

It's very important that you be available to take phone calls so that the sales can be finished quickly.  Keep in mind that bidding on a large number of calves takes quite a few phone calls, so please be patient. It's impossible to run this type of auction in any certain order considering the large number of bidders and calves being sold.  It's not perfect, but it does allow you to purchase your prospects without being present.

CALVES MUST BE PAID FOR IN FULL WHEN THEY ARE PICKED UP OR WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF THE SALE, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST.  If you can't pay for them DON'T BID!!

Any calves not sold will be priced individually and sold on a First Come, First Served basis starting the day after each sale.  Every year there are many good calves not sold during the auctions that do very well for their new owners.

Calves are assumed to be sound and healthy when sold, so if there is a question in your mind about a particular calf's fitness, Don't Bid.

If you are unsure how this format works, be sure to ask any of the producers.
