 | February Tip:
This is the time of the year
coming out of winter is to make sure your cattle have
been poured and wormed. We use Cydectin. With warming
temps usually there can be an increase in lice activity.
This also helps in the shedding process to get the new
hair coming in . We like to brush the dead hair out
which in turns trains the new hair coming in . More work
but better results Good luck ! |
|
 | January Tip:
If
you haven't got your spring born calves broke this would
be an excellent time. Tying them up to eat each day is
very effective, a little more time consuming but very
rewarding!! Do not put this off as it will only get
harder as they get older and heavier.
|
|
 | February Tip:
When
your are clipping for show, make sure the better part of
your clipping is done at home before you go. Clipping
from start to finish is hard to get done all at the show
besides fatiguing your cattle. We like to wash and rough
them out or give them some shape and then wash again as
it is sometimes easier to get them clean that second
round after some hair has been removed. From there we
just keep going over them until we feel they are
finished. Each one is different and we handle their
preparation on an individual basis. GOOD LUCK AT THE
SHOWS !!

|
 | March Tip:
When
clipping prior to show , keep the hair light with
product to insure a crisp clean cut. We usually use
sheen and a light weight oil if needed . This gives
the hair more lift and wont lay over as heavy products
can.
|
|
 | April Tip:
If
you are hauling to shows make sure that your trailer is
heavily bedded to prevent road jar, lameness and
stiffness. This is very important and can effect your
placing before you ever unload.
|
|
 | May Tip:
This
is the time of year to get that dead winter hair out.
The sooner this is gone the sooner the new comes in. We
recommend that you use a regular scotch comb as opposed
to a fluffer to insure more intensified strokes.
We believe that brushing the dead hair out helps break
the new hair coming in. Worming can aid in the shedding
process also.

 | June Tip:
Now's
the time to be getting those cattle ready for the summer
fairs and the daily care is what's gonna get it done.
Rinsing cattle routinely is important ! Rinse for at
least 5 minutes or longer per calf. Cattle temperature is
101.5 degrees and it takes some time to cool them down
to promote hair growth. Running water on cattle is called
Hydo-therapy, which creates circulation and promotes
stimulation. Air Flow with fans is important
also. Remember the shows are won at home and not at the
show, It's not the big amount of work that you do right
before the show but the effort that you do all the time
prior. Good luck !!!

|
 | July Tip:
hen
using the Ezall Total Body Wash, Make sure that it is
applied directly using the foamer without wetting the
animal first. Wetting the animal first with water before
soaping creates a water barrier and this product has a
releasing and lifting effect with dirt and needs to come
in direct contact with the dirt. This will give you the
results that you are looking for. Using the foamer you
will be able to wet and soap at the same time.

 | August Tip:
If
your calf has some of that long stringy hair on the
shoulders and neck and you don't know what to do with
it, Try the Andis HT 5/8 blade. This gives you an option
to do something with that " I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH
HAIR'' Start at the jaw and work back towards the
shoulder, clipping upward against the hair. This will
leave it 5/8 " long and makes it easy to blend out of.
If they have a lot of hair with undercoat, then it will
have to be blocked in free hand. The Ht 5/8 blade can be
rewarding and time saving especially during the summer
months. GOOD LUCK !!

|
 | September Tip:
EZALL IT' GONE is a great product
for removing adhesive and paint after the show.
Afterwards the leg hair will be soft and conditioned.
Also great
for clean up . Combs, chutes, fitting mats and those
showday jeans that get so filthy. Good Luck at the
shows. |
|
 | Feeding Tips:
1. Pickup uneaten feed to prevent overload. This will
keep your cattle's appetite more aggressive.
2. When hand feeding, cattle should consume 2-3% of
their body weight per day in feed.
|
|
 | Grooming Tips:
1. Before
going to a show pull up the leg hair with adhesive and
clip . This will let you know what adhesive works best
and will get rid of unwanted hair.
2.
During winter months your adhesive
needs to be warm to perform effectively.
|
|
 | Clipping Tips:
1. Being able to slow down and take you time to blend
is the hardest part of learning to clip.
2. When clipping it is always better
to make more passes ,than trying to do it all in one
stroke.
