Rod is the South Dakota State SDSU 4-H Livestock Specialist. He has judging experience at county, state and national livestock shows. Rod has coached seven 4-H Livestock teams to National 4-H Livestock Judging Contests that qualified as State Champions to Denver, Kansas City and Louisville. Having had a few team members become All-Americans. In his current position, he coordinates all of the 4-H Livestock events at the State Fair, including the State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest and SD Summer Spotlight Show. Rod holds numerous Livestock Judging Clinics, Oral Reason Clinics and Show Cattle Clipping and Fitting Clinics all across the state. He has judged numerous 4-H, FFA and National showmanship and fitting contests over the years including the National Junior Maine Anjou Team Fitting Contest in Sioux Falls.
Rod and his wife, Suzy raise club calves that have been very successful in the show ring at jackpots, state fairs and at the national level.  They raised a Reserve Champion Market Steer at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, CO. Their children show cattle and have been very successful at the State Fair and AKSARBEN. Just recently their daughter showed the Reserve Champion Commercial Breeding Heifer at the SD State Fair.
Prior to Rod's current position, he was a SDSU Livestock Extension Educator for 10 years and prior to that a show cattle herdsman for one of the top Chiangus breeders in the nation.
Currently Rod is the President of the South Dakota Club Calf Association, and a member of the SD Extension Specialists Association.
Rod prefers to judge cattle, but will judge swine and sheep.
